Why did you become a member of the Fine Arts Center?
I joined the Fine Arts Center because I feel it is a great place to foster an interest and love for great art. It is so interesting to see art from different parts of the world. Sometimes you can learn a lot about the culture and lifestyle of other countries by what you see in the art produced in the country or area. I believe we all have a creative side and that it needs to be fostered and encouraged.
When did your interest in the arts begin?
My interest in art began when I was little and we went to see a glass blowing demonstration. I was so impressed by what they could create and how easy they made it seem. It wasn’t until after I had my children that I really began to immerse myself again in art and really love the way the art can elicit many different feelings and moods as well as memories.
What has been one of your favorite plays at the FAC?
My favorite play at the Fine Art Center was Annie. I was able to bring most of my family to see it with me and that made it even more enjoyable. The cast did a wonderful job and it was amazing to watch the talent on the stage. I have enjoyed many other plays but this one will always be memorable to me.
What is your favorite work of art at the FAC?
I really love the Dale Chihuly sculpture in the lobby of the Fine Arts Center. I love all the natural shapes and colors but I think my favorite is actually the orange one that is on display downstairs – the vivid colors just seem to pop and the colors are so cheerful that I always enjoy looking at it and walking around to get a good look at all those wonderful shapes that come together in a wonderful sculpture.
What else do you like to do for fun in Colorado Springs?
I do a lot of knitting and like to go hiking. We live in such a beautiful area that hiking in this area gives me plenty of time to just check out our natural art. Other than that I just like to do things with family and friends.
