Theatre subscriber for 2 years
Why did you become a subscriber of the Fine Arts Center theatre?
I am a recent subscriber, but plan to be a lifer! I was reintroduced to the FAC about a year ago at an exclusive backstage dinner hosted by Anita and Phil Lane. I used to come to the FAC to see musical in the past but lost interest. When I returned, I was blown away with how excellent the theatre experience was. The quality of actors, singing, and the set design; just wow! I remember thinking- I only have to drive a few miles to find Broadway quality shows. We have it in our own backyard!
When did your interest in the arts begin?
First, as a young child I used to draw and paint a lot. I grew up in a household that loved music, so we sang a lot. In college I learned guitar, sang in choir, and even performed at Carnegie Hall. My love for musical theater started in 1998 when I saw Les Misérables. Up to that point in my life I had never seen anything like it. It changed me and I could not get enough of musical theater from that point on. I became a big fan.
What has been one of your favorite plays at the Fine Arts Center?
Intimate Apparel; just wow! The cast, acting, and set was so good! The story was incredibly moving, it gripped me from beginning to end. It is an African American story, told during Black History Month. Hi five FAC, well done!
What is your favorite work of art at the FAC?
The Act of Drinking Beer with Friends is the Highest Form of Art was one of my favorite exhibits. Art is beautiful, it appeals to the senses or emotions. Drinking Beer with Friends, accomplishes all of this and more. In addition, I had a blast both as a participant and as a guest bartender.
What else do you like to do for fun in Colorado Springs?
The FAC of course, being a season subscriber. I also love exploring the downtown scene (special plug for First Friday art walk downtown). I also love my work, it makes me sound like a workaholic but I really do love what I do. It’s fun!
