Happy Holidays! What a great time of year to celebrate the arts! This season of lights is such an amazing time of year. Throughout history and across nearly all cultures and faiths, this is a season to ponder, a season to be in awe, and a season to celebrate. Artistic expression explodes around this time of year and we are thrilled to follow in that tradition. We at the Fine Arts Center wish you a very happy and blessed holiday season and hope that you will have special experiences with the fun, beauty and wonder that the arts can add to this season.
This last weekend we kicked off our Winter Lights celebration which continues through January 8th. We have brought back the tradition of the Fine Arts Center being filled with lights and trees and great art throughout the holiday season. Special thanks to our Winter Lights committee and sponsors for helping us resurrect this important tradition in a fresh and beautiful way for all in our community.
We initiated Winter Lights with the Bemis School of Art 17th Annual Art Sale, the opening of Shrek: The Musical, and a truly fun exhibition of one of the most significant collections of original hand-drawn Grinch animation cels in America, playfully named Merry Grinchmas! We had more than 1,000 people here for our various art offerings that launched this wonderful season for us. If you missed out on last weekend’s festivities, be sure to mark your calendars for our next big Winter Lights party on Saturday, Dec 17 from 10a–2p. This day of family fun will feature ice sculpting, hands-on art activities, special entertainment, demonstrations, food, and more.
I do hope that you will come by, enjoy the art, take in the show, and sign up for a special art class over the holiday break. We all need breaks from the “regularness” of life and this season allows for moments of fun and light-heartedness as well as for deep reflection on what matters most in life.
Happy Holidays to you and yours,
David Dahlin
