Diverse Voices / Diverse Forms

Professor Natanya Pulley (Assistant Professor of English) developed the UnBlocked exhibition Diverse Voices/Diverse Forms with her students while a 2018–19 Mellon Faculty Fellow. Pulley’s fellowship with the Fine Arts Center allowed her to incorporate visual art into her curriculum, which uses experimental texts that can sometimes be difficult for students to access. By engaging with works of art that ask some of the same questions, students practiced close observation that helped give them a fresh perspective on the text. 

The exhibition Pulley’s class curated asks what it is we are searching for when observing works created by artists of color. What does it mean to be vulnerable and dismantle the culture that we bring with us?
