DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Otake’s solo exhibition I Invited Myself\, vol. II\, the Department of Theater and Dance at Colorado College will host a series of two-day events featuring film screenings\, live performance by Otake\, and conversations with faculty\, scholars\, and curators. \nConversation: What to do with Eiko? \nThursday April 6\, 4–5 p.m.\nJodee Nimerichter\, Brian Rogers\, Rosemary Candelario \nScreening: A Body in Fukushima\nThursday April 6\, 6 p.m.\nCreated and edited by Eiko Otake\, this feature length film is composed from still photographs by William Johnston that recorded her lone performance in the surreal\, irradiated landscapes of post-nuclear meltdown Fukushima over five visits. \nThe film had its world premiere at the Museum of Modern Art’s Doc Fortnight Festival 2022 and has since been screened in many festivals worldwide. Historian and photographer William Johnston’s talk with scholar Karen Shimakawa will follow the screening. \n\nPanelists and special guests for April include:\nElise Butterfield\, Independent Curator based in Chicago \nRosemary Candelario\, Associate Professor of Dance at Texas Woman’s University \nJoshua Chambers-Letson\, Professor of Performance Studies at Northwestern University \nWilliam Johnston\, Photographer and Professor of History\, Science in Society\, Environmental Studies\, and East Asian Studies at Wesleyan University \nThomas (T.) DESCRIPTION:Join Inside Out Youth Services (IOYS) in partnership with the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center at Colorado College for a youth open mic. In honor of The Collective installation featuring local youth artists in The Gift at the FAC\, IOYS will be host a youth open mic April 25 at 5:30 for middle\, high school\, and college youth up to 24 years old. We will have a sign-up list for anyone that wants to sing\, dance\, read a poem\, rap\, or just to tell us about your day. The event will be hosted by IOYS youth with support from staff\, Poetry Heals\, Hear Here Poetry\, and Poetry 719. This event will be held in the Music Room of the FAC. There are elevators for accessibility to the Music Room. \nThis event is FREE and open to the public. \n
