La Virgen de Guadalupe\, the patron saint of Mexico and goddess of the Americas\, has generated reflection on the question of our divine and corporeal being for over 500 years. Learn why and how artists and writers continually invoke the image of La Virgen de Guadalupe in their work. Who is she? Why is she revered? SUMMARY:Steven Yazzie: ^^(Resource)
DESCRIPTION:The central video of ^^(Resource) follows the journey of a yellow stone taken from Dook’o’osliid\, later named the San Francisco Peaks in Arizona\, a location that is sacred to the Diné people. The stone moves from a lab to a shop\, and finally to a ritual ceremony. These contexts—scientific\, aesthetic\, consumerist\, and spiritual—contribute to the stone’s changing meaning and significance. Yellow is the is the color the Diné associate with the mountain and the cardinal direction west. While the experiences with the stone change based on the people who interact with it\, the imagery of the mountain range reminds us of where this resource came from and has since been extracted and removed.

Singing\, dancing\, acting\, writing\, designing\, directing and activism in the arts will all be explored in the class. This session will culminate with a performance of their original work during the final class.

DESCRIPTION:Inspired by Rembrandt’s palette and layering techniques\, this class will provide a strong foundation for developing portrait painting skills and/or expanding and enriching your current practice. Informed with the instructor’s years of personal development and experience\, the approach is a simple\, step-by-step process designed for minimal anxiety and a solid foundation to continue to expand your skills confidently after the class ends. Non-toxic alternatives to the traditional mixing mediums and paints will be covered. As the course ends\, adding one’s distinctive mark to these fundamental oil painting techniques and color palettes will be discussed and implemented.
