DESCRIPTION:American Homeboy is a documentary film directed by Brandon Loran Maxwell that explores the complex origins of pachuco and cholo culture which sprouted from American soil more than 100 years ago in response to wartime sentiment\, social alienation\, and government discrimination only to become a pop culture phenomenon. \nThe film screening will be followed by a conversation and light reception. Chang-Tablada is a Korean-Filipino-Irish-American musician\, storyteller\, and photographer. One of Colorado Springs’ most beloved and prolific Music Directors\, J. Chang-Tablada is known for his work with the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College\, Theatreworks\, and Millibo Art Theatre. An accomplished entertainer in his own right\, J. frequently takes the stage singing and sharing stories from the piano\, with recent performances at 54 Below in New York City\, at the Green Box Arts Festival with his “Sing-a-long with Jerry McCauley and Friends” concerts last summer\, and with his debut holiday album “Naughty & Nice” concerts last December.

Chang-Tablada is a Korean-Filipino-Irish-American musician\, storyteller\, and photographer. One of Colorado Springs’ most beloved and prolific Music Directors\, J. Chang-Tablada is known for his work with the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College\, Theatreworks\, and Millibo Art Theatre. An accomplished entertainer in his own right\, J. frequently takes the stage singing and sharing stories from the piano\, with recent performances at 54 Below in New York City\, at the Green Box Arts Festival with his “Sing-a-long with Jerry McCauley and Friends” concerts last summer\, and with his debut holiday album “Naughty & Nice” concerts last December.

DESCRIPTION:Join Mike Martin\, Executive Director/Founder of RAWtools\, for a tour of Another Way is Possible\, an exhibit that contains items made out of broken gun parts\, thus telling the story of the transformation of guns to garden tools\, art\, jewelry\, and other lovely things. This exhibit represents work made in the RAWtools shop in Colorado Springs\, in addition by local and statewide partners\, and dozens of blacksmiths\, makers\, and communities around the United States. \nRAWtools is a local organization dedicated to helping people solve their problems without guns and violence. It’s the connective thread through a life of changes. He started in the late Sixties playing a keyboard his father bought for his 14th birthday. One year later\, on his 15th birthday\, life took an unconscionable\, unalterable turn. Coming up on his 65th birthday this month\, Bryant sat down with Humanitou. He shares how he came to live and play improvisationally\, about his musical influences and a day working alongside one of them. He talks about being rescued from a mental hospital by a cousin\, embracing the love and peace of the counterculture\, and playing his way (almost) to the top of Pikes Peak. \n
