II\, the Department of Theater and Dance at Colorado College will host a series of two-day events featuring film screenings\, live performance by Otake\, and conversations with faculty\, scholars\, and curators. \nConversation: What to do with Eiko? \nThursday April 6\, 4–5 p.m.\nJodee Nimerichter\, Brian Rogers\, Rosemary Candelario \nScreening: A Body in Fukushima\nThursday April 6\, 6 p.m.\nCreated and edited by Eiko Otake\, this feature length film is composed from still photographs by William Johnston that recorded her lone performance in the surreal\, irradiated landscapes of post-nuclear meltdown Fukushima over five visits. \nThe film had its world premiere at the Museum of Modern Art’s Doc Fortnight Festival 2022 and has since been screened in many festivals worldwide. II on view in the museum. \nIn this site-specific performance\, Otake will perform a series of actions in different museum locations while leading audiences to her exhibition on the second floor. Audiences should be prepared to follow Otake and find places to sit or stand in each location. Please be mindful that site-specific performances do not always offer clear sightlines\, leaving it to audiences to discover how to best arrange themselves in the moment. There will be limited seating available for audience members who need physical support during the performance. DESCRIPTION:In 2015\, a Mohegan theatre-maker moves to England to pursue a PhD in Shakespeare\, grappling with the question of what it means to remain or leave\, as the Brexit vote threatens to further disengage the UK from the wider world. Moving between nations that have failed to reckon with their ongoing roles in colonialism\, Achokayis finds comfort in the journeys of their Native ancestors who had to cross the ocean in the 1700s to help their people. In this intimate and exhilarating solo piece directed by Mei Ann Teo\, Sayet asks us what it means to belong in an increasingly globalized world.
