SUMMARY:“Reframing Birds of America:” Conversations on Audubon
DESCRIPTION:From 1827-1838 John James Audubon published Birds of America\, which is generally considered to be among the finest examples of prints illustrating avian life in America. This exhibition Reframing Birds of America: Conversations on Audubon explores these historic prints with a contemporary lens. The FAC show\, curated by Colorado College students\, fosters appreciation of the prints while highlighting other voices in conversation with Audubon’s work. Reframing Birds of America: Conversations on Audubon comes from the Fine Arts Center’s collection of several hundred Audubon prints and includes rarely seen examples.

SUMMARY:Robert Blackburn & Modern American Printmaking
DESCRIPTION:Robert Blackburn (1920-2003) was a key artist in the development of printmaking in the twentieth century. His innovative\, masterful expertise with the medium helped define the overall aesthetic of the American “graphics boom.” This new exhibition examines Blackburn’s life and work\, which touched the Harlem Renaissance and the WPA; the Art Students League and the New York School; Paris in the 1950s; the venerable print workshop Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) and the graphic explosion of the 1960s. Blackburn forecasted and participated in the proliferation of collaborative\, non-profit workspaces in the early 1970s\, the rise of multiculturalism\, and\, ultimately\, globalism. \nImage: Robert Blackburn\, Red Inside\, 1972–late 1980s\, Woodcut\, 12 x 111/2\, Nelson/Dunks Collection\, Photograph by Greg Staley

SUMMARY:Steven Yazzie: ^^(Resource)
DESCRIPTION:The central video of ^^(Resource) follows the journey of a yellow stone taken from Dook’o’osliid\, later named the San Francisco Peaks in Arizona\, a location that is sacred to the Diné people. The stone moves from a lab to a shop\, and finally to a ritual ceremony. These contexts—scientific\, aesthetic\, consumerist\, and spiritual—contribute to the stone’s changing meaning and significance. Yellow is the is the color the Diné associate with the mountain and the cardinal direction west. While the experiences with the stone change based on the people who interact with it\, the imagery of the mountain range reminds us of where this resource came from and has since been extracted and removed.

SUMMARY:Anyone Can Whistle
DESCRIPTION:A Youth Rep Ensemble Production | Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim | Book by Arthur Laurents \nAnyone Can Whistle tells the story of a corrupt mayoress who fakes a miracle to revitalize her bankrupt town and the ill-fated romance between the rational nurse\, out to expose the fraud\, and the easygoing doctor who is determined to enjoy the chaos that it brings. In the end\, the show delivers a poignant message about the importance of the individual in a conformist society — but not before aiming its still-relevant barbs at government\, religion\, science\, and anything else that stands in its way! \nWith its circus-like atmosphere\, Anyone Can Whistle features plenty of memorable\, lovably cartoonish roles of all sizes. The dazzling\, melodic Broadway-style score overflows with the youthful energy of experimentation\, consisting of one showstopper after another\, including two extensive ballets that provide opportunities for some inspired choreography.
