SUMMARY:Nora Naranjo Morse
DESCRIPTION:In her exploration of new sculptural techniques\, Naranjo Morse’s artworks advance the trajectory of Indigenous artistic traditions. When shifting between materials from nan to metal and back to nan\, she raises her own questions about cultural change. She challenges the expectations that Pueblo art must remain confined by a set of restrictions deemed traditional by an outside commercial force. Resisting the idea that cultural loss is probable or inevitable\, Naranjo Morse offers an alternative: embrace traditional Indegenous knowledge as a solution to the urgent issues of our time.

SUMMARY:World of WearableArt™
DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 31st anniversary of the World of WearableArt™ (known as WOW®)\, New Zealand’s largest arts show. WOW® is an international design competition that attracts hundreds of entries\, with an annual awards show that presents the finalist garments in a theatrical extravaganza that collides at the intersection of fashion and art. The rules of the competition encourage anything that is in any way wearable\, as long as it is original\, beautifully designed\, and well-made\, resulting in garments that are constructed from an extraordinary array of traditional and unconventional materials. The challenge: take art off the wall and adorn onto the human form. The 32 award-winning garments presented in this exhibition represent some of the most original\, provocative\, and unorthodox objects in the WOW Museum collection\, demonstrating what designers from a wide variety of occupations can imagine when they are released from the constraints of “fashion” and are encouraged to see the human body as a blank canvas. “Think of an Alexander McQueen show meets the Nutcracker on crack and then take it up a notch.” –Huffington Post

SUMMARY:One-Act Play Reading
DESCRIPTION:Presenting Aria Da Capo by Edna St. Vincent Millay\, written in 1920 in homage to The Academy Players of the Broadmoor Art Academy\, the FAC Theatre Company will perform special one-act play readings in the museum galleries in celebration of our 100th Anniversary. Free and open to the public in the Loo Gallery. \nThe play that caught the attention of the critics on the second bill of the 1919-1920 season at the Provincetown Playhouse\, was Aria da Capo by Edna St. Vincent Millay.  An unusual play structurally\, a pastoral bookended with a harlequinade\, it is unique in that it was perceived by most to be an anti-war statement\, and yet can also be seen as an more universal portrayal of the human condition.  The play defies being set in a given time period and the playwright allows juxtapositions within the play to speak louder than the writing of any political statements could have accomplished. The characters are portrayed as being controlled by a script not of their own making\, and yet ultimately prove to be powerless to step away from it. The play’s oblique approach actually gives its message power and its simplicity of staging was perfect for it to be premiered by the Provincetown Players.
