FAC member for 5 years
Why did you become a member of the Fine Arts Center?
I became a member of the FAC because I love all forms of art and the creative energy that comes with it. It is exciting to be invited to share the artist’s vision of the world and to combine it with your own perspective. There are so many possibilities for interpretation.
When did your interest in the arts begin?
My interest in the arts began during childhood and has continued throughout my entire life. I used to be an art major in college and although I no longer create art, I have a great appreciation for it. It enriches my life and brings me great joy.
What has been one of your favorite exhibits at the Fine Arts Center and why?
I really enjoyed the graffiti art exhibit with Fuse and El Mac (El Mac: Aerosol Exalted, 2015). It was original and broadened my sense of what graffiti art is. The special event held at the FAC (JAM FAC, 10/3/2015) included hip-hop music and street dancing which was fascinating and a lot of fun to hear and watch. Formerly, I had a narrower vision of graffiti and thought of it more in terms of tagging on the walls of buildings instead of an art form in its own right.
What is your favorite work of art at the FAC?
I love the chandeliers and works of art produced by Chihuly. They are beautiful and feel full of life. To me, the chandeliers seem to draw inspiration from the ocean and its many varied life forms. I also enjoy the play of light on his works, for it is ever changing and as a result, his pieces are constantly morphing.
What else do you like to do for fun in Colorado Springs?
I very much enjoy the outdoors, hiking, horseback riding, and traveling to see new places and learning new things. The Independent is my friend and helps me to find exciting venues to visit things to do. I love music, art films, especially independent and foreign ones, dance, theater, and literature, many genres from poetry to storytelling. There’s a lot to do in the Springs!
